Stars and Stripes Picnic Quilt from Prairie Moon Quilts

Usually, when I design a Block-of-the-Month quilt, it spawns so many ideas for spin-off quilts that I end up having to make some of them! Such is the case with the Loretta’s Farm and Garden Sampler quilts.

One of the blocks used in Loretta’s Sampler is the traditional block called “Star and Stripe”. When placed next to each other without any sashing, these blocks make a fantastic secondary design. Because of the block’s original name, I wanted to make my picnic size version in red, white, and blue. And I had the perfect bundle for it!

The ...

Ciara’s Take Two Quilt from Prairie Moon Quilts

Or, I guess we should call it “Take 40” — haha!

Ciara made this quilt from my “Take Two” pattern for her son (I think). Correction! She made it for her husband for his 40th birthday — and I just love how it came out!

If you zoom in, you can see how she fussy cut the center squares with motorcycle fabrics, so that it’s personalized just for him! I love it!

The pattern is available in my Etsy shop, in both print and PDF versions. And don’t be intimidated. It’s not as hard as it looks. I’ve ...

The Original United Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Introducing...my United quilt!  This is one of the most special quilts I own!  Many hands went into making it.  It was completed in 2020 so this blog post is long overdue! Keep reading to hear the story behind this quilt...

I am sure you would all agree that 2020 was a rough year for humanity.  At the beginning of the year, people started to realize we had a terrifying worldwide Covid-19 pandemic on our hands.  Then, a few months later George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis, MN. police officer.  Riots ensued and cities across the country burned. All ...

Feels Like Home Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Anyone else feeling like they need to finish a few projects before the end of the year?  I've got about
3-1/2 quilts to bind so I'll be watching all the Christmas movies for the next two weeks while I try to get those finished!  I watched Haul Out the Holly on Netflix while finishing the binding on my Feels Like Home quilt.  It was a cute movie about a town that is over-the-top festive and a girl...who is not!

I hosted a quilt-along for this pattern in August and September and enjoyed making it alongside some ...

Bonnie Rose from Prairie Moon Quilts

Meet “Bonnie Rose” — the 2024 Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stocking!

I name Bonnie Rose after my dear old horse, Bonnie. This year, I wanted a stocking that lets the fabric do a lot of the talking, so I chose a floral focal print for the body of the stocking.

There’s still a bit of easy appliqué and some optional embroidery, too, but this is one of the quicker stockings to make.

The back is plain, showcasing the floral focal print, but you can certainly make your stocking two-sided, if you wish. As with all the stocking patterns, there ...

Family Ties Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Hello!  Today I want to share a quilt that I actually finished a couple of months ago.  I got some pictures of it in September but I'm finally blogging about it!  It's a free pattern that I designed for the Riley Blake Designs website called Family Ties.

You may recognize it because I shared the original version (using my Feels Like Home fabrics) HERE.
I loved making the original version so much that I decided to make another, bigger one from my stash!

I am not much of a purple person but when I spontaneously put some purples ...

Sweet Flourish from Prairie Moon Quilts

Last year’s mystery quilt at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop wrapped up back in August/September, but I’m only just now finding time to post about it here!

If you participated in their mystery program, then you know what the quilt looks like. But for those of you who did not, here’s the big reveal!

Jessica chose a selection of Art Gallery fabrics, combined with some low-volumes for background, and asked for a medallion-style quilt this time, so here’s what I came up with. Her fabric choices give this quilt a super soft, vintage-y/modern, blended look ...

Scrappy Holidays Quilt Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

I'm so excited to share a new quilt pattern with you today!
It's called Scrappy Holidays and it's available just in time for some festive holiday sewing!  I love working on Christmas quilts when it's cold (and preferably snowing outside)!  It's so cozy and sort of nostalgic in a way!

Scrappy Holidays finishes at 68" x 84" and is scrap-friendly.
The skill level is intermediate because there are some little pieces on the stockings and stars.  Plus, there are some different triangles throughout.  BUT, it's really not too bad, I promise!

When you make ...

Love in Chains II from Prairie Moon Quilts

Way back in 2015 (how is that already so long ago?), I designed this cute throw quilt for Dear Stella to showcase some of their fabrics. For a while, they offered it as a free pattern on their site, but as things have evolved over time, it’s no longer there.

So . . . I’ve moved it over here to my Free Patterns page. So it’s once again available as a free pattern, which you can acquire for your ownself right HERE!

But along with that, I did a little extra, and wrote a second, even scrappier, version of Love ...

Gigi's Quilt: A New Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

Hello, hello!  Today I have a fun new pattern I want to share with you!  It's a sentimental one for me.
It's called Gigi's Quilt and was inspired by one of my grandmother's quits.

This is my grandmother, Delma Baldridge (circa 1960).

She taught me how to quilt; we had a special bond.  She had a Churn Dash quilt that I always admired.  I loved the classic block, the scrappy red and blue color palette, and the Baptist Fan hand quilting.

Several months ago, I wanted to design a quilt pattern in honor of my grandma ...

Welcome Wreath: a 2-Color Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Hi there! This past month has been a whirlwind with my nephew's wedding in Montana, kids home from college, and out-of-towners staying with us here and there. It's been fun and I've loved every minute!  But now things are slowing down and I want to share a quilt I finished a little while ago.

Back in May, I had the idea to make my new pattern, Welcome Wreath in a 2-color version.
You can check out the original, colorful version HERE.

I mocked up a few samples of 2-color Welcome Wreath quits and liked them!  So I ...

Feels Like Home Patterns from A Little Bit Biased

Hi!  Did you see my last blog post with my big announcement?  I have a new fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs!  It should be shipping to stores at the beginning of June!

It's called Feels Like Home and it's full of warm browns, deep pinks, navy blue, forest green, teal, and gold.  Plus 10 different low-volume prints.  It's so scrappy and I hope you love it!

Today I want to share more about the 4 new patterns I designed to go along with the collection:
Star Tiles, Welcome Wreath, Feels Like Home, and Family Ties.

First ...

Feels Like Home Fabric and Patterns from A Little Bit Biased

Well, I think I am overdue for a little announcement on here...
I have a new fabric collection coming out with Riley Blake Designs and it's shipping to stores any day now!  I have talked a lot about it on Facebook and Instagram but if you're hearing about this for the first time, I apologize!  It's something that's been in the works for over a year so to say "I'm excited" is an understatement!  So without further ado, I'd like to introduce...

The prints in Feels Like Home were inspired by peaceful walks through ...

Cherish - Alternate Version from A Little Bit Biased

Hello, hello!  2 posts in 2 days!  What's up with me?!?
Well, you may remember I posted about my new Cherish quilt pattern back in February.

Well, I made another version of that pattern that I want to share with you!
Since I know applique is not for everyone, I wanted to make a version of this pattern that doesn't have the appliqued scalloped border.  When I was making the original and writing the pattern, I knew it could be cute either way.  I always want to encourage you to think "outside of the box" and make each ...

Rough and Tumble Quilt in Red, White and Blue from A Little Bit Biased

Red, white and blue is one of my favorite color combos and I'm a firm believer that one can never have too many red, white and blue quilts.  I have a couple of red, white and blue flag quilts, a couple of red, white and blue star quilts, a red quilt, some blue quilts. I even have a red, white and blue Pineapple quilt.  But I didn't have a plain red, white, and blue patchwork quilt...so I set off to make one last June.

I grabbed lots of red, white and blue fabrics from my stash and ...

Merry Pinwheels Baby Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Hi there!  Today I want to share a baby quilt that I actually finished a couple of months ago.
The pattern is called Merry Pinwheels and this is the second Merry Pinwheels quilt I've made.  If you're curious, you can check out the original one HERE.

I made this because I really wanted to see what this pattern looked like in non-Christmasy colors!
Plus, I thought a pinwheel quilt would be so cute for a baby.

I based the color scheme on the sweet yellow, pink, and copper-brown ditzy floral print in the middle row above. I just ...

Cherish - A Gigi's Thimble Quilt Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

Hello friends!  Today I want to introduce to you my new quilt pattern, Cherish.
It's a scrap-friendly pattern that features lots of patchwork hearts and a scalloped border.
There are 3 size options included: lap, throw, and full.

This was my original fabric pull - all from my stash.

The pattern is perfect for using your stash, scraps, or precuts.
I love simple patchwork; these hearts are so fun to make.

I would describe the skill level for this pattern as advanced beginner/intermediate.
The hearts are rather simple and surprisingly, the appliqued border is too.

The scallop is a ...

The Great Lakes Mystery from Prairie Moon Quilts

Hello! I hope you all have your year off to a great start!

I’m gonna start out trying to catch up on a few things I got behind on last year (I hate having to do that, but it needs to be done to make myself feel better!) Can you even believe I have things to carry over? Haha!

One of those things is releasing the pattern for The Great Lakes Mystery!

Last year, the Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild celebrated their 10th anniversary, and they asked me to design a monthly program just for them to help them ...

Pink Lady from Prairie Moon Quilts

It’s finally here — the 2023 Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Boot Christmas Stocking! And I guess I should say “cowgirl”, cos it’s called “Pink Lady” this year. I haven’t done a pink stocking since 2009, so I figured it was high time for another one.

Here she is:

This year’s boot features very simple hand embroidery, and just that tiny bit of appliqué to give it some accents.

Naturally, you can make it in whatever colors you need, to make it for a cowboy or someone who doesn’t like pink!

You can also leave off the ...
